Food Show 2016

Who: Youth ages 5+
When: Saturday, March 5
Cost: Free
Where: East Wilkes Middle School

It’s time to show off all your culinary skills at the upcoming Area Food Show! This will be held on Sat., March 5th at East Wilkes Middle School and is open to youth ages 5 and up. There are three age categories to participate in: Cloverbud (ages 5-8), Junior (9-13), and Senior (14-18).

Categories include: snack/appetizer, main dish, vegetable/soup/salad and desserts.

This is also a great time to show off your table presentation skills (i.e. tablecloth, flowers or decorative items that go with the theme of your dish). You must bring serving plates and utensils for at least two judges (plastic and paper are fine). At the end of the day we will all get to sample everyone’s dishes so additional plates and utensils are recommended but not mandatory.
Transportation can be provided but you must let us know ahead of time. We will leave the office at 8:30 am. Setup will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 9:45 a.m. Your dish must be cooked ahead of time. There are no microwaves or stoves available at the school but we do have access to electric outlets.

Judging will begin at 9:45 a.m. While judges taste all the wonderful recipes, participants can enjoy different hands-on activities.

Entries will be judged on recipe, taste, table setting and nutrition. All participants will receive a cookbook of all the recipes featured at the event. You must fill out a registration form to participate.

A link to these forms can be found HERE (Word) or HERE (PDF)  or by contacting the Extension Office. There are also sample questions listed of things the judges may ask you.

If you would like more information about the food show, please contact the office at 372-5597.
