Winterfest

Attention teens ages 13-19! Join the NW District at our last Winterfest, which will be held on January 18-19, 2008. We will travel to the Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro to learn more about Expressive Arts. We'll be spending the night at the YWCA and then just walk over to the Art Center the next day. The cost is $35, but there will possibly be scholarships available. If you are interested in attending the fun-filled event, you must register by 5:00 pm on Friday, January 4th.

Operation: Military Kids Photography & Visual Arts Contests

The North Carolina 4-H Operation: Military Kids Program has announced the first OMK Photography and Arts Contest. The contest is opened to youth. The age categories are 5-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-15 and 16-18 years old. The contest is designed to introduce youth to photography and the arts as a part of the 4-H Expressive Arts Curriculum. Youth will utilize their photography skills and their artistry, but most importantly, what freedom, patriotism and support for our troops mean to them.

All photographs and artwork will be displayed during the week of the 2008 North Carolina 4-H Congress, other event and appropriate venues.

Mock Horse Bowl

Rockingham County 4-H is hosting a Mock Horse Bowl Practice on January 12, 2008 at the Rockingham County Cooperative Extension Center in Reidsville, NC. They will have hippology supplies and equipment to practice with. Registration starts at 9:00 am and the contest will begin at 10:00 am. This event is open to all 4-Hers!

Plan to attend, even if you do not have a Horse Bowl or Hippology team together yet, because they are goind to mix everyone up to form new teams to practice at this event. You must register by Thursday, January 10th.

NW District Horse Bowl


The NW District Horse Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Rockingham County Extension Office. The registration deadline for this event is January 8th.

State Volunteer Leaders Conference


The North Carolina Volunteer Leaders Conference will be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Research Triangle Park on February 1-3, 2008. If you are interested in attending, let me know as soon as possible.

State Council Conference


State Council Conference was held November 17-18 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, NC. Cate Hall, James Hall, Victoria Hall, Corissa Wilson and Inna Zhekova participated in the various workshops and programs. Victoria led a workshop on macramé and Cate led a workshop on aboriginal art. Victoria was also recognized for achieving her Emerald Ambassador Level. James participated in the ARI (Application, Resume and Interviewing) Track Workshops. Corissa participated in Ambassador Training workshops. A special thanks to Bonnie Hall for transportation and pictures from the conference. Thanks to all those who participated.

Project Record Books

The deadline for turning in your completed project record books is 5:00 pm on Monday, January 14, 2008. If you have any questions or need help with your record book, please contact the Extension Office or your club leader.

Holiday Make It ~ Take It Workshop


Want to make something special for the holidays? We will be having a Make It ~ Take It Workshop on Saturday, December 15th from 10am until noon. This will be held in the 2nd floor conference room of the County Office Building. The cost for this fun-filled event is $5.
