4-H Fall Plant Sale

We are currently taking orders for the 1st Annual Fall Plant Sale.  The following types of plants are available to purchase:

• Grapes
• Raspberries
• Blackberries
• Blueberries
• Peach Trees
• Apple Trees
• Pear Trees
• Herbs
• Flowers

ORDER & PAYMENT DEADLINE:
Wednesday, October 1, 2014
Payment is due at the time orders are placed

** We can now accept credit/debit cards for payment, with a small fee of 3.75% or less charged.  Phone orders can/will be accepted with a credit/debit card purchase. **

PICK-UP DATE:

Just a reminder that the deadline for registering your teams for the 4-H Forestry Contest is August 29th.

Tree Identification (live and herbarium specimens - 25 total)
Tree Measurement (15 trees total)
Forest Insect and Disease Identification (10 examples of each)

Open Horse Shows Postponed

Due to the inclement weather, the Open Horse Shows that were scheduled for tonight & tomorrow have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 30th.

Happy Trails 4-H Horse Camp

The 2014 Alleghany Happy Trails 4-H Horse Camp will be held August 5th - 8th at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds, located in Sparta, NC.  Applications for camp are due by July 21st.  The non-refundable camp fee is $100 per camper.  This fee and all forms are due by July 31st.  Spaces are limited and are filled based on the application received.  Attendance for camp is open to youth that are certified North Carolina 4-H members and have access to a sound horse.

There are also openings for Junior Leaders.  In order to be considered as a Junior Leader, you must be a registered 4-H member and you must be 16-19 years old.  Junior leaders will assist with camp activities, duties, fixing meals and helping with Cloverbuds.  Junior Leaders are considered campers and will be responsible for all forms, etc., but will not be charged the camp fee.  

Timeline for Camp:
Applications are due by July 21st
Applicants will be notified of acceptance by July 28th
Entire camp fee and forms are due by July 31st
Camp begins August 5th

Summer Fun Addition: BASKET WEAVING 101

WHO:  Youth ages 8+

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a basket?  If so, join us on as we learn from veteran teacher and weaver, Kim Clayton.  All supplies and materials will be provided and you will go home with your very own basket!

4-H State Council Conference

Who: Any boy or girl 13 years of age or older as of January 1 who is participating in the 4-H program is eligible to attend State 4-H Council Conference
 
When: Saturday, September 6 – Sunday, September 7, 2014

Where: McKimmon Center, State Fairgrounds, Carter Finley Football Stadium
 
What Does It Cost? 
Full Time Registration (includes Facility, Insurance, Saturday Dance, Workshops, CALS Tailgate Ticket, Football Game Ticket, Sunday Lunch and  Lodging): $155
