Military Care Packages



We will again be sending care packages to the military personnel of the North Carolina National Guard stationed in Afghanistan. To see what can and cannot be shipped, check out this LINK for the Wish List Items for Solider Care Packages. Link to wish list is at the bottom of the page

If you would like to mail the care packages yourself, we have been informed if you use "If it Fits, it Ships" process there is no charge for shipping. Most USPS offices will ship to an APO/FPO address at no charge.

If you would prefer that we handle shipping, please drop off your care packages by December 15 at the Alleghany Extension Office (90 S. Main St, 3rd floor). North Carolina 4-H is proud to support the more than 123,622 active duty, reserve and guard troops who call our state home. Please help to support our troops during the Holiday Season.

4-H Scholarships and Honor Club Applications


Scholarship and Honor Club applications are due to the Extension Office by January 12th at 5pm. The applications must be reviewed and signed by me before they are forwarded to the State 4-H Office. Please click on the links below for more information on each.

Scholarships are open to 4-H members in North Carolina who will be registered as a full-time student.Recipients awarded NC 4-H Academic Scholarships will have an outstanding record of 4-H participation and achievement. Additionally, recipients will possess an excellent high school record of academic achievement measured chiefly by their performance on solid secondary school courses including English, mathematics, physical sciences and social sciences. Also, recipients will demonstrate an aptitude for college work which will be measured by their performance on college entrance examinations including the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Testing (ACT).

Membership in the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club is bestowed upon those 4-H’ers who have exhibited outstanding 4-H citizenship and leadership throughout their 4-H career. An Honor Club member continues to provide leadership and service to the total 4-H program throughout life. For full elegibility requirements please click on the link below.



West Central District Teen Lock-In


The West Central District officers would like to invite 4-H teens from across the West Central District to a lock-in!

When: Friday, January 14-Saturday, January 15, 2011
Where: Catawba County Cooperative Extension Center
Time: Registration will begin at 6:30 pm, with activities beginning at 7:00. We will adjourn by 7:00 am on Saturday morning.
Cost: $15 (Includes supper, cosmic bowling and snacks)

We will be doing activities/workshops related to the statewide Hunger initiative.

We will be leaving the County Office Building at 5pm on Friday and will return by 9 am on Saturday morning. For more information or to register contact the Extension Office by Monday, January 3rd .You can reach the Extension office by calling (336) 372-5597.
