Grayson County Junior 4-H Camp

Interested in meeting new people and enjoying camp at the same time? Grayson County 4-H is now accepting registrations for its 2008 Junior 4-H Camp, June 23-27, 2008. Grayson County will be camping alone this camping season and they are aiming to pack the house at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Abingdon, VA. The camp fee of $140.00, covers all of the following for the week: transportation, food, lodging, programming fees, grounds fees, insurance, program supplies and other costs that have to be covered for operations at the 4-H Center.

Grayson County Junior 4-H Camp is open to 9-12 year olds. There are opportunities for 12-13 year olds to become Counselors-in-Training. Teens, 14-19, and Adults may apply to become counselors for 4-H Camp as well. "Career Exploration" 4-H Poster Contest

Is there a career that you have a particular interest in? Here is your chance to explore that career further. You must follow the simple rules provided below to be eligible. The two top posters from the county will be eligible to move on to district level competition on June 28th. Winners in each age division from District move on to State competition. Youth ages 9-18 may participate with age categories being 9-10, 11-13 and 14-18. Posters are due in the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m.on Wednesday, June 11th.

** Poster must be on standard poster board and must be of uniform size 22” X 28”– other sizes are ineligible.

** Use theme to select a career you are interested in and share it with us! For example: “Explore Nursing.”

** Copyrighted materials should not be used i.e. newspaper and film cartoon characters may not be used.

** Posters must contain only original artwork (hand-drawn) by the artist (cut outs from magazines /prefab or professional clipart is not allowed).

** Keep it simple and to the point.

** Display the poster in a prominent location in your hometown during the month of May or June. For example: local library, grocery store, school, or extension office.

** Complete a contest entry form and tape/paste it on the back of your poster.

Posters will be judged on originality, that it follows the career theme, conveys a message, has accurate information and general appearance.
