The White House Student Film Festival

File:WhiteHouseSouthFacade.JPG

The First-EVER White House Student Film Festival:

Something big is happening today, and you don't have to be a kid to be excited about it:

We're launching our first-ever White House Student Film Festival -- and we're inviting K-12 students from around the country to create and submit one- to three-minute short web videos.

Finalists could have their videos screened at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and posted on the White House website. It might just be cooler than having your homework up on the fridge.

The topic: Highlighting the importance of technology in the classroom -- and imagining how technology will change the educational experience for kids in the future.

Interested, or know someone who would be?

*Check out our official page here -- where you can learn more, read the official rules, learn how to submit your video, and hear from Bill Nye (the Science Guy). And if you're a parent, guardian, or teacher, make sure you spread the word to kids with big ideas.

Submissions are due by January 29th 2014

General Hugh Shelton Leadership Scholarship

The General Hugh Shelton Leadership Center is pleased to offer for the 10th year a major four-year college scholarship. Each year an incredible high school student will win this national scholarship. Many students have been selected from NC and one from as far away as Russia (actually a US student completing her high school experience overseas).Next year’s winner could be from your school!!

The mission of this initiative, housed at NC State University, is to “inspire, educate, and develop values-based leaders who are committed to personal integrity, professional ethics, and selfless service”.

We conduct scholarship programs, executive education trainings, leadership forums, and youth outreach programs.

As a part of the scholarship program we have endowed the General Hugh Shelton National Leadership Scholarship. Essentially, we are trying to identify and award America’s most outstanding high school student leader. The type of student leaders you are producing are exactly the ones who may be qualified and interested in pursuing this scholarship, valued at $10,000 per year (and renewable), plus an annual $2,000 stipend for external leadership experiences such as study abroad.

Please share this opportunity broadly.

The following website will provide a description of the scholarship, the criteria and theapplication, which is due by November 1.

Holiday Classic Open Horse Show - we need your help!

The annual Holiday Classic Open Horse Show will be held in Raleigh on December 6-7, 2013.  This horse show is a fundraiser for our NC District 4-H Horse program as well as the NCSU Western Equestrian Riding Club.  Since 2009 when we started this show, our district has been able to contribute over $11,000 to 4-Hers attending camps, and provide travel scholarships to 4-Hers representing the NC 4-H Horse Program at the Southern Regional Horse Championship and at the National 4-H Horse Roundup for several educational contests. We also have been able to continue our program of providing two
annual college scholarships of $500.00 each. We annually contribute monies towards sponsorships to many N.C. State 4-H Horse Program educational contests. Also, with the money that is raised, the North Central District is able to keep the District show entry fees among the lowest in the state!!
So now that you see all the impacts that this horse show has on our district program, please help us!  There are several ways you can help - sell sponsorships, secure vendors, volunteer at show, show your horse, help advertise.  Sponsorships are very reasonable - starting out at $10 for a class sponsor.  Think how much we would have if everyone went out and got at least a $10 show sponsor.
If you know of a possible major show sponsor, but do not feel comfortable with asking, just pass along their info and we'll do the calling for you!

We also have an incentive to sell sponsorships - whoever sells the most sponsorships will receive a free stall for the Holiday Classic show.
You can find all the information on sponsorships, class lists, etc on the Holiday Classic website:  http://holidayclassicopenhorseshow.webs.com/
If you have any questions at all please contact District 4-H Horse Council President, Richard Isley at 336-908-3302.
Thanks so much for your support in making this horse show a success!
