Engaging youth in scientific exploration early on provides the necessary platform that they need to build a long-lasting interest in the field, and to make ongoing contributions to the sciences. Science is often an overwhelming and consequently overlooked subject for young people, but the 4-H Science Fair makes science exciting, accessible, and relevant. Youth will learn about science fair resources, how to construct a science fair exhibit and will be encouraged to continue their science exploration by applying what they’ve learned to their own science fair project.
Youth ages 9 to 18, parents and educators are invited to participate and compete in the 4th annual West Central District 4-H Science held on January 7, 2012 at the Catawba County Science Center in Hickory. Entry forms and a $5 registration fee are due by October 15, 2011. Prizes (1st place - $75, 2nd place - $50 and 3rd place - $25) will be awarded in three age divisions (9-10, 11-13 and 14-18) in four categories, life science, physical science, earth & environmental science and technology and engineering. 4-H Science Fair entry forms may be located at
