2009 NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Conference
The upcoming 2009 NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders Conference is quickly approaching!! This year's theme is: 4-H: Pearls of Wisdom, Diamond Dreams. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Conference Center, Raleigh, NC from February 6-8 2009. 4-H Teen Lock-In
A teen 4-H lock-in is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2009. The lock-in will be held at First Ward Recreation Center in Charlotte, NC. Cost for the lock-in is $15 per person.
Teens should plan to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Please plan to eat supper before arriving. We will walk TOGETHER to the Time Warner Arena for the Charlotte Bobcats vs. Phoenix Suns basketball game. The game begins at 7:00 p.m. After the game, snacks will be served at the recreation center followed by a workshop, games, fitness activities and midnight movies. A light breakfast will be served the next morning. If you are interested in registering, please contact the Extension Office at 336-372-5597 or amy_lucas@ncsu.edu ASAP.
The deadline for registration is December 30th. No exceptions!!

4-H Scholarships Due January 12
Are you a graduating 4-H Senior looking for scholarship opportunities, then you have come to the right place. For 2009, NC 4-H is awarding over $38,000 to graduating seniors to pursue a higher education.
Scholarship applications are due to the local 4-H office no later than 5:00 pm on January 12th. All forms must be reviewed and signed by me. If you have questions, please contact our office at 336-372-5597 or e-mail me at amy_lucas@ncsu.edu.
To be eligible, you must be a current North Carolina 4-H member who is a graduating high school seniors . Applicants must have accumulated at least a minimum of 3 years of 4-H work. All Scholarships will be directly paid to the college or university. Recipients must be full time students. Applicants must be attending College in North Carolina with the exception of the 4-H Horse Program Scholarship.

Honor Club Application Due January 12th
Membership in the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club is bestowed upon those 4-H’ers who have exhibited outstanding 4-H citizenship and leadership throughout their 4-H career. An Honor Club member continues to provide leadership and service to the total 4-H program throughout life.
In order to be eligible for membership, the applicant must have completed three or more years of 4-H club work and shall be at least 16 years of age and not more than 20 years of age on January 1 of the year of application.

2008 State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest
Recently several Alleghany County 4-Hers traveled to Salisbury to participate in the 2008 State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest. The Alleghany Senior Division Team finished in third place out of nine teams with a score of 885 points. Team Members included: Bridgette Sturgill, Dustin Lambert and Maggie Evans. Bridgette also came in fourth in the individual contest results and all team members will be invited to try out for a position on the 2009 State 4-H Dairy Judging Team. Great job to everyone.

Elves & the Shoemaker: Only two tickets left!!
There are only two tickets left to the December 13th showing of the Elves and the Shoemaker. The show starts at 10:30 so we will be leaving the Extension Office at 8:30.
