Food Show 2017

personified cooking utensilsWho: Youth ages 3+
When: Saturday, March 11, 2017
Deadline to Register: March 3, 2017
Cost: Free
Where: Yadkin Cooperative Extension Office (2051 Agricultural Way, Yadkinville, NC)

It’s time to show off all your culinary skills at the upcoming Area Food Show! This will be held on Sat., March 11th and is open to youth ages 3 and up. There are four age categories to participate in: Pre-Cloverbud (3-4) Cloverbud (ages 5-8), Junior (9-13), and Senior (14-18). The theme this year is “Family Favorites”, so we would love to see a family-favorite dish.

Categories include: snack/appetizer, main dish, vegetable/soup/salad and desserts.

This is also a great time to show off your table presentation skills (i.e. tablecloth, flowers or decorative items that go with the theme of your dish). You must bring serving plates and utensils for at least two judges (plastic and paper are fine). At the end of the day we will all get to sample everyone’s dishes so additional plates and utensils are recommended but not mandatory.

Transportation can be provided but you MUST let us know ahead of time. We will leave the office at 8:00 am. Setup will begin at 9 a.m. and Judging will begin at 9:45 a.m. Your dish must be cooked ahead of time. There are no microwaves or stoves available, but we do have access to electric outlets. While judges taste all the wonderful recipes, participants can enjoy different hands-on activities.
Participants will be judged on recipe, taste, table setting and nutrition. All participants will receive a cookbook of all the recipes featured at the event. You must fill out a registration form to participate.

There are also sample questions listed of things the judges may ask you. If you would like more information about food show, please contact the office at 336-372-5597.

Horse Smarts - limited time discount

American Youth Horse Council LogoA new 4-H horse club resource is now available for purchase with a coupon code for $20 off for a limited time.  This new resource, "Horse Smarts," will become an official resource for the horse bowl and hippology contests FOR ALL DIVISIONS beginning in January 2018.  It will REPLACE the Youth Horse Leader's Council Resource.  So, effective Jan 1 2018, Horse Smarts will be a resource for ALL DIVISIONS and the Youth Leader's Manual will be removed.

This resource can be ordered at the link below:

Use the Coupon Code "Horse Smarts" at checkout to receive a $20 discount.  This discount will not be available long term (we do not know the end date at this time), so keep that in mind.

Also, this resource does NOT come in a 3-ring binder, but allows you to divide it up into different sections and different binders if you wish.

This resource also has many "hands on" worksheets and activities appropriate for all ages, so it could be a great club resource in general.
