Spring Shooting Sports Worshop

The dates for all the NC 4-H State Shooting Sports events have been post on the website, www.nc4-hshootingsports.org

The 2015 spring adult volunteer training will be held at the Eastern 4-H Center, March 13th - 15th, 2015.  This is a great opportunity for adults.  Scholarships may be available to help cover costs if interested in attending.  Contact the office for more information @ 336-372-5597.   Applications are due March 1.

2015/2016 District Officer Forms


Are you a natural leader?  Ever though you would like to run for an office to help guide others?  Then being a North Central District Officer may be a position for you.  These roles are important and responsible for planning various district and state events, working closely with other officers and must be dedicated to 4-H.

You must be at least 14 years old and be an active member in 4-H.  This is an exciting opportunity and one that can open many doors.  District Officer forms are now available.  Deadline for these to received in office is January 30th.  Be sure to read over guidelines thoroughly and complete the application entirely.  If you have any questions contact the office @ 336-372-5597.  Forms and guidelines can be found below.

2015 4-H Scholarships

2015 Scholarship Applications are now available.   If you are a graduating 4-H Senior looking for scholarship opportunities, then look no further. NC 4-H is awarding more than $30,000 to graduating seniors to pursue higher education.

Scholarship applications are due to the local 4-H office no later than 5:00 pm on Friday- February 6th. All forms must be reviewed before they are sent to Raleigh. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 336-372- 5597.

To be eligible, you must be a current North Carolina 4-H member who is a graduating high school senior. Applicants must have accumulated at least a minimum of 3 years of 4-H work. All Scholarships will be directly paid to the college or university. Recipients must be full time students.

4-H Honor Club

Membership in the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club is bestowed upon those 4-H’ers who have exhibited outstanding 4-H citizenship and leadership throughout their 4-H career. An Honor Club member continues to provide leadership and service to the total 4-H program throughout life.
In order to be eligible for membership, the applicant must have completed three or more years of 4-H club work and shall be at least 16 years of age and not more than 20 years of age on January 1 of the year of application.

Honor Club Applications are due to your local Extension Office no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2015. These must be signed by me before they can be forwarded onto the state office in Raleigh. All those inducted will participate in a tapping ceremony held at 4-H Congress.

4th Annual Ski & Snowboard Trip


Who:  Youth ages 8+ (under 12 requires a parent/guardian)
When:  Friday, February 6th - 3:30 pm - 1 am
Where:  Applachain Ski Mountain / French-Swiss Ski College
Cost:  $25 Ski - $30 Snowboard (dinner on your own or $8 for chic-fil-A)
Deadline to register:  Monday - February 2.


We are getting ready to take our 4th annual ski/snowboarding trip at the French- Swiss Ski College at Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock on Friday, February 6th. All youth ages 8+ (under age 12 requires a parent/guardian present) are eligible to attend. The cost will be $25 for skiing and $30 for snowboarding. Clothing rental will be additional. Dinner will be available for purchase (approx. $8 from Chic-Fil-A) or you may eat on your own at the Snack Bar. We will leave the office at 3:30 p.m. and will return around 1 a.m. Spaces are limited so contact the office to register (336) 372-5597

2015 NC Beef Ambassador Contest

The NC Beef Council and the NC Cattlewomen's Association have announced the 2015 NC Beef Ambassador Contest for youth ages 12-20. Please visit http://www.ncbeef.org/ncbeefambassadorprogram.aspx for additional information.

Horse Bowl 2015

Horse Bowl practice is tonight (Monday, January 12) at 5:30 PM at Stacy Adam's law office on Main St., Sparta They are still seeking members for the senior team. Seniors must be 14 as of January 1, 2015. No prior experience necessary and you do not have to own a horse. If you are interested in learning more contact the office at 372-5597.

*North Carolina Sheep Producers Association Meeting*
What: Educational meeting for all interested in Sheep
When: January 17, 2015
Where: Guilford County Extension Office
Who:  This event is open to anyone interested in Sheep, youth and adults alike. For more information visit the NC Sheep Producers website at http://www.ncsheep.com/.


*Judging in January*

What:  This is a livestock judging contest/clinic.  This event offers a great opportunity for youth to come and showcase their livestock evaluation skills and also prepare for future livestock judging contests.
When: January 24, 2015
Where: NCSU Beef Educational Unit, located on Lake Wheeler Rd
Who:  This event is open to all youth under the age of 18, as of January 1.

*Nance Family Meat Goat Leadership Institute*
What:  This event is designed to encourage leadership and self development while learni! ng about the Meat Goat Industry.  Youth do not have to be currently involved with the goat industry to participate in this program.  It is totally free to participants and includes two meals.
When: February 7, 2015
Where: NCSU Beef Educational Unit, located on Lake Wheeler Rd.
Who: This event is open to all youth ages 10-18.  Interested youth must fill out the  application and submit by January 9.  Applications can be found on our website athttp://www.cals.ncsu.edu/an_sci/extension/animal/4hyouth/ah4h.html.

*NC 4-H Livestock School*
When: February 28- March 1
Where: Eastern Carolina Ag & Education Center, Tarboro
Who:This event is open to all youth ages 9-19.  Youth have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of showing livestock.  Youth are asked to pick one species of livestock to be covered the entire weekend(Swine, Meat, Goats, Lambs, and Cattle).  This is a hands on clinic and youth are en! couraged to bring their own animal but it is not required.

When: March 21
Where: Mountain State Fairgrounds, Fletcher
Who:This event is open to all youth ages 9-19.  Youth have the oppportunity to learn about judging sheep, meat goats, swine, and cattle.  Additionally, their will be a practice contest to help kids be more familar with the event.

WINTERFEST 2015



Who:  Youth ages 11 & up
What:  Winterfest
Where:  Guilford County - Greensboro
When:  Saturday - January 31 - 7:30 am - 5 pm

It’s getting pretty cold already, but we are looking forward to our 2015 North Central District 4-H Winterfest that will be held on Saturday, January 31st in Greensboro! Winterfest is a one day event for all 4-Hers in the North Central District ages 11 and up. The cost to attend is $20.

We will leave the office parking lot at 7:30 am and return at approximately 5:00 pm.

In the morning there will be an interactive workshop called “The Reality Store” as well as a community service project led by your District Officers. In the afternoon we will have lunch
followed by your choice of Ice Skating or Bowling with your fellow 4-H Members!
